End of an era.

Aaron “mindfreak” Leonhart is no longer part of Paper Rex’s active roster after getting moved to reserve status, the team announced on X (formerly Twitter).

PRX has allowed mindfreak to explore other opportunities as a restricted free agent, as the Controller main still wants to continue playing at the highest level. He will be playing the role of a substitute player until VCT 2025 Pacific Stage 2.

“Aaron is a fierce competitor and an incredibly cerebral player with a wealth of experience in his roles. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have him on our reserve roster, ready to step in should emergencies arise in Stage 2,” PRX’s Chief Gaming Officer Harley “dsn” Örvall said.

The active PRX roster for Stage 2 includes d4v41, f0rsakeN, something, Jinggg, and PatMen—the same roster that went on to win the Masters Toronto in June.

Mindfreak was a core player for PRX when they entered the competitive VALORANT scene. He initially joined the org’s CS:GO team in February 2020, but then switched to Riot Games’ competitive shooter when the opportunity arose in 2021.

The 25-year-old Indonesian pro served as Paper Rex’s sixth man since PatMen’s arrival last March. During this period, he briefly stepped into a coaching role, playing a key part in the team’s championship run at Masters Toronto, where they defeated Fnatic 3-1 in the grand final.

Mindfreak shared on X that he went through a rough patch mentally earlier this year. With this break, he’s looking to prepare for the next chapter of his career: “I’m ready to play after Stage 2. I’m taking my time here at home to prepare mentally and physically to compete again since my state of mind was in a really bad shape earlier this year.”

“I hope you guys can try to understand my point of view. The future of Paper Rex are in great hands, they’re still my boys, so I would not be worried and still supporting them till the end,” he added.

Several VALORANT pros, along with his teammates, wished him luck and expressed their desire to see him play on the big stage again.

FNATIC’s crashies said, “Best of luck my brother Aaron Leonhart. Hope to see you soon.” Mindfreak’s teammate, something, said, “It was a fun two years with you and I hope everything will work out for you in the future. GL.”

At the end of his repost thread, mindfreak said, “I guess that’s it from me for now. In the meantime, while still waiting for offers, I’m gonna stream more and take my time to relax mentally.”
