How to beat Swamp Walker in The First Descendant

What are you doing in my swamp?

After defeating the Pyromaniac in The First Descendant, the next boss you must fight is Swamp Walker. It’s not nearly as challenging as Pyromaniac, but there are a few things you should know when heading into the Swamp Walker Void Intercept Battle.

Swamp Walker appears twice in The First Descendant, first as a level 82 Normal boss, and then as a level 118 Hard boss. The design and mechanics of the boss are very similar to the Grave Walker, the very first boss in the game.

Target the following weak spots to deal the most damage:

  • Core in the center
  • Shell/shoulders to the sides of the core
  • Brain at the top of the head

The boss’s attacks include missile barrages, minigun attacks, and monster spawning. In the frenzied state, you have to destroy the vials on Swamp Walker’s legs. Try to avoid leading the boss to the edge of the map, as one of the vials may end up on the backside. During this state, the boss also becomes more aggressive and fires more missiles.

The loadout for Swamp Walker is very flexible. Pick the best weapons you have regardless of range, as it’s not too dangerous to fight it up close. Python, Tamer, Eternal Willpower, and other high DPS weapons are all great options.

The missiles leave behind a toxic puddle, so make sure to avoid them or have enough Toxic resistance in your build to withstand the damage (ideally both). You can also bring a Descendant with movement skills like Bunny or Valby, or get the Mid-Air Maneuvering Module to quickly move around the battlefield. Keep in mind that it might make grappling onto removable parts a bit more difficult.

On both difficulties, Swamp Walker has a bunch of linked items for you to farm, from Descendant to Ultimate weapons.

Here are the Amorphous Materials linked to the Swamp Walker (Normal):

  • Amorphous Material Pattern: 043, 044, 044 Mutant-AA, 045, 046

Here are the Amorphous Materials linked to the Swamp Walker (Hard):

  • Amorphous Material Pattern: 094, 094 Mutant-AA, 095, 096, 097

There are quite a few drops you can get from these, but the main ones are materials for Ultimate Descendants, including Ultimate Ajax Spiral Catalyst Blueprint, Ultimate Gley Spiral Catalyst Blueprint, and Ultimate Valby Enhanced Cells.
