Locked doors in Star Wars Outlaws are everywhere, appearing in main story progression, side quests, and off-the-beaten track while hunting for collectibles. Because they play such an important role, it’s crucial to get to grips with the method quickly.

Although not as fiddly as Fallout’s lockpicking system, the locked door mechanic can be tricky, but we’re here to help.

The premise of the unlocking doors mechanic in Star Wars Outlaws is relatively simple. To open locked doors, hit the required trigger at the same time as every beep and light flash on the screen. In practice, it can be more difficult.

I found the best approach to be looking away from the screen or closing my eyes to listen to the pattern, as the lights were too distracting. If you are out of the rhythm, stop and start again—don’t try to adjust, as it just prolongs the process.

If you are finding Data Spikes too difficult, enable the extra visual UI helper by following these steps:

  1. Open the pause menu.
  2. Select the Gameplay option.
  3. Scroll down to Mini Games.
  4. Find the option for the Lockpicking rhythm challenge.
  5. Turn Lockpicking visual cues from off to on.

In these settings, the difficulty of Lockpicking can be adjusted, and the mini-game can be turned off entirely. If you choose that approach, just wait a short amount of time for the door to be unlocked.
