Despite leaving the competitive Rainbow Six: Siege scene in January, Cloud9 is taking another chance in the esport. The organization announced that it has signed the entire roster of the South Korean team, Mantis FPS.
“We’re super excited to be back in the R6 scene and we know this team is going to make waves right away,” Cloud9 CEO Jack Etienne said. “Their ability to not only be successful but to sustain it for months on end caught everyone’s attention and we’re looking forward to them continuing that run.”
Mantis FPS has been playing very well in Korea, winning the Six Challenge Korea, as well as the Korea Cup Quarterly Finals this year. Their last foray into international play didn’t go too well, though, as the team fell out of the 2019 Six Invitational in the group stage.
“It’s a great honor to be a part of Cloud9. We’ve been putting in so much work since Brazil Y2S3 Pro League Finals, Paris Major, and Six Invitational 2019 in pursuit of this recognition,” coach Kim “SummerRain” In-yeong said. “You can only imagine how overjoyed we were to get an offer from one of the best organizations in the world, and our dream team, Cloud9.”
The roster features Kim “EnvyTaylor” Sung-su, Lee “Neilyo” In-yup, Han “SweetBlack” Chan-yong, Kwon “h3dy” Yu-geun, and Lee “Nova” Si-Hun. You can catch the new-look Cloud9 competing in season nine of the Rainbow Six: Siege Pro League for the Asia Pacific region, which starts on Saturday, April 13.
