Earn Overwatch League tokens and exclusive skins by watching OWL on Twitch

Fans will also be able to Cheer to earn exclusive items.

Fans looking for more Overwatch League tokens can now earn them by doing nothing more than watching the games on Twitch.

As part of Blizzard and Twitch’s Overwatch League broadcast deal, players can earn Overwatch League tokens (used to buy Overwatch League team skins) from watching the tournament on Twitch. To earn tokens, players must link their Twitch accounts to their Blizzard Battle.net accounts. One token is earned per live map finish, with some viewers randomly earning 100 tokens—the price of one skin—during the final map.

The program is available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 and runs through the first season of the Overwatch League. Some players might remember the quiet pilot program that was tested in January, where a few players earned random tokens.

Alongside the reward program, Overwatch League viewers will be able to unlock skins, emotes, and themed items by using Twitch’s Cheering with Bits feature. The skins will be exclusive to the Cheering program for a while, as will the emotes and team-branded items. “A Cheer leaderboard also tracks top Cheerers to show who’s the biggest fan,” according to the press release.

Money from cheering—which is essentially donating but with an icon—doesn’t go toward individual players or teams. “Overwatch League Cheering is part of a larger partnership between Twitch and Overwatch League that supports the League and players as a whole,” a Twitch representative told Dot Esports. “Cheering during Overwatch League helps support this partnership, rather than the teams individually.”

In the future, Twitch will offer a VIP ticket for Overwatch League viewers that unlocks “even more in-game items, behind-the-scenes video content on Twitch, and plenty of other perks to be announced.” A target date for the VIP ticket is not available.

The rest of the features go live with the start of Overwatch League’s second stage tonight, Feb. 21.
