The second Capcom Cup premier event has come to a close in Paris, France.
Once the dust had settled, Tatsuya “Haitani” Haitana stood tall over Hiromiki “Itabashi Zangief” Kumada taking home 400 Capcom Pro Tour points.
Itabashi Zangief sent Haitana down to the loser’s bracket in their first meeting of the tournament in the fourth round of the losers bracket—and Haitani was looking for revenge.
In the Grand Final Haitana decimated his opponent in a clean sweep 3-0 to reset the bracket against Itabashi Zangief, after coming up from the losers bracket.
There would be no comeback from Itabashi Zangief as Haitani repeated himself for a second 3-0 sweep in the losers grand finals to take the Premier title.
Itabashi Zangief looked a shadow of the player who had remained undefeated for the majority of the day. He was the favourite going into grand finals, the sweet by Haitani was not only surprising but felt out of place in a grand final.
Haitana already had 70 points on the leaderboard going into the Premier event from his ninth place finish at Final Round 20 last month. The win means that Haitani heads to the top of the leaderboard. Haitani now leads Kun Xian Ho, who had held the place for the majority of the tour.
It’s not all bad news for Itabashi Zangief however, who gets 250 points with his second place finish. The additional points haul puts him in the top four of the Pro Tour standings.
