Monster Hunter Wilds gets long-awaited release date

Prepare for the hunt.

Monster Hunter has always been fairly niche as far as Capcom’s game series go, coming closest to the mainstream with 2018’s Monster Hunter World. That hasn’t stopped it from amassing a dedicated fanbase, however, and Capcom has finally pulled back the curtain on the series’ latest entry.

Monster Hunter Wilds looks to be absolutely massive in every way imaginable, from its monster-filled world to the scope of the monsters inhabiting that world to the selection of weapons with which you’ll be asked to brutally slaughter them. After much teasing since last year’s Game Awards, Wilds finally had its release date announced at today’s State of Play presentation: February 28, 2025.

It’s somewhat strange Capcom has been playing coy like this, considering the glut of information we’d been given up until now. Enough has been shown off through presentations and previews that players been able to put together a fairly clear picture of the game, with extensive lists of the game’s various monsters and monster-slaying implements already being compiled.

In the 10 months since the game’s reveal, we haven’t even had a hint of a release date before now. Someone at Capcom must be a masochist, though, because that February date is likely to come as cold comfort to a lot of gamers. February 2025 is still nearly half a year off, after all, joining the roster of 2025 releases that all seem firmly out of reach. In addition, that 2025 release date means Wilds is going to have far stiffer competition to compete against and stand out from. It’s going to go up against the likes of Death Stranding 2, the newly revealed Ghost of Yotei, Borderlands 3… and let’s not forget the single most anticipated game of all time.

Even with all these caveats to consider, it’s still nice to have that long-awaited date finally set in stone… pending any delays, of course. Fingers crossed!
