Is The Lord of the Rings Return to Moria crossplay and cross-platform?

The game's release on new platforms has prompted this question.

The survival adventure game The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria will soon make its way to new platforms. However, those who’ve purchased the game at its original Sony and Epic Games stores might wonder if it will have crossplay. Here’s all you need to know.

At the moment, no, but it will become a crossplay title once it launches on Steam and the Xbox Series X and S. This was confirmed by the developers in an Aug. 7 blog post, where they said the game’s port to Valve and Mircosoft’s storefronts will be followed by The Golden Update that aims to enable “crossplay between all platforms.” The update won’t solely focus on that and will introduce a “Sandbox Mode,” alongside a “treasure trove of other content, updates, and improvements that have been implemented since the game’s release.”

LOTR: Return to Moria will also be discounted and cost $19.99 as of Aug. 27, when the ports are supposed to go live. This brief sale is aimed to bring in new players and lasts for only a limited time which the developers haven’t yet specified.

For the uninitiated, Return to Moria is a game set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-Earth, though uniquely set in that realm’s Fourth Age, which the writer never developed. It follows a group of Durin’s Folk returning to their fabled homeland that has been infested by Orcs and the infamous Balrog, seeking to exploit the “lost spoils” of Khazad-dûm.
