Ultimate Tavern Brawl Guide: Party Portals

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Introduction

Recommended Videos

Hello, my fellow brawlers! This week’s brawl is a party-a Portal Party that is! Party Portals is the name of the game and its portals this way and that. You’ll be using various portals to summon minions and create the most excellent of entertainment with which to lose yourself, even for just a few minutes.

What’s makes this week’s brawl even more cool is it serves as an even greater opportunity to check out the Medivas, which are putting on a special show, where the game functions with you as the star! It’s added an additional fun factor allowing you to play as Medivh…since its Medivh vs Medivh.

This brawl has the feel as part of an additional wing within the recent expansion, and I like it! One player will begin the game with Mark Moonwalker on the board and the other with Wanda Wonderhooves, both of which by the way will allow each player the opportunity to play portal cards for 1 mana less than their original cost. They’re both immune to attack and spells, so they’ll stick around for the entirety of the game.

The Deck

Good news this week if your card collection is lacking-this brawl get’s you a premade deck! Bad news if your into deck construction-this week’s brawl gets you a premade deck! It’s filled with a random assortment of portal spells:

  • maelstrom-portal
  • unstable-portal
  • party-portalParty Portal
  • silvermoon-portal
  • ironforge-portal
  • moonglade-portal
  • firelands-portal

This brawl is extremely spell heavy so beware. Not much in the way of minions, and the one’s who do exist, fill your board in a more round-about way-the after effect of a portal. The portals will summon 1 of 4 possible minions:

red-riding-hood RED RIDING HOOD: 3/2 Taunt, Deathrattle: Enemies can’t attack this turn.

romulo ROMULO: 3/4. At the end of your turn restore 5 health to your hero

mime Mime: 3/6 Taunt

party-elemental Party Elemental: Three 2/2 Taunts.

Win Condition

This one is tough to answer. I’m sorry folks there really isn’t a straight forward answer for this week’s brawl. The minions you’ll draw into are so RNG, winning or losing this match up will come down primarily to lady luck’s kiss-or lack thereof. All I can really say is do the best you can with the card’s you’re dealt, make good sound decisions, decent trades, and sacrifices when you need to like in any other match up and hope for the best. This game will get slower the longer it goes, be smart with your spells and don’t be afraid when you eventually find yourself top decking.

Conclusion

All things said and done, I got to say this one was a big more challenging than most. RNG being what it is, I eventually got my free pack simply by banging my head against the wall until it gave way–errr..the wall I mean, not my head. It took several crushing defeats, where sometimes my most powerful minion was cthuns-chosen, but I eventually got what I wanted.

I hope this guide offers some insight and help to you. Let me know how it works out in the comments below and good luck! Until next time!
