With the final wing of Blackrock Mountain a few weeks ago, the Lord of Blackrock, Nefarian, finally found his way to Hearthstone. Some dismissed his effect as gimmicky, but that means it’s providing for some hilarious and unexpected outcomes.
In World of Warcraft, Nefarian has specific abilities for each class of character. Obviously, that isn’t particularly practical in Hearthstone. So instead, Nefarian gives you two spell cards from your opponent’s class when played. Spells vary in quality and applicability to a different class, so this can be pretty variable. For every Totemic Might, there’s a Savage Roar.
This stream highlight from London Conspiracy‘s Alex “Raven” Baguley shows just how weird things can get with Nefarian on the board—particularly if both players play him.
Baguley’s opponent is first to drop Nefarian, receiving two Warrior spells for his Paladin.
Hesitant at first, Baguley is understandably keen to counter that Nefarian with one of his own. Worried about taking the eight damage from the enemy Nefarian, Baguley receives a normally useless card: Eye for an Eye.
Excited and thinking this card could well save him, he plays it immediately—but to no avail. The combination of a Consecration alongside the Heroic Strike and Inner Rage his opponent got from Nefarian ends the game in a way that no one could have predicted.
Despite the loss, Baguley can’t be mad. After all, what is Nefarian useful for if not causing games to become absolutely crazy?
