Tony Hawk hints at completely new skateboarding game in the works

Give us the good stuff, Tony.

If you’ve been craving another game to hit the asphalt with your board, one of the industry’s most recognizable faces has good news for you. Tony Hawk has teased a new skateboarding title that could be coming out in the near future, much to the surprise of fans everywhere.

The 56-year-old skateboarding legend hinted at the news in a video with Mythical Kitchen, where he was asked about the future of his popular Tony Hawk Pro Skater video game franchise. He didn’t reveal too much information on the subject, but he did say he has been “talking to Activision again,” and that it will be a game “that the fans will truly appreciate.”

The last Tony Hawk Pro Skater game released back in 2020, when Activision dropped a remake of the first two titles in the franchise with updated graphics. The remakes featured the same original pro roster, but also had new pros in the lineup as well. There were also classic songs in the soundtrack, all of the original modes, and even had upgraded Create-a-Park and Create-a-Skater features.

This would, however, be the first original Pro Skater game since 2015, when Pro Skater 5 dropped to widespread criticism. Since Tony Hawk’s licensing deal was set to expire at the end of 2015, the title was released in an unfinished state, including a plethora of bugs, glitches, lackluster graphics, and difficult controls.

Robomodo, the developers behind Pro Skater 5, eventually went out of business in 2016, marking the fifth addition to the Pro Skater franchise as their final release. Remakes of the third and fourth game of the franchise were also cancelled after Activision’s merger with Blizzard, which made hope hard to come by.

This time, however, it seems like this unnamed skateboarding game will be slowly and methodically developed to perfection to avoid any complaints like before.

Tony Hawk has always been one of the most iconic figures in skateboarding, and his name has always remained in the minds of fans across the world due to these video games. Older fans and younger fans alike should be ecstatic, especially after nearly a decade since the last original release.
