One of the most controversial weapons in Fortnite: Battle Royale history may be coming back to the game very soon, according to a recent leak.

A Twitter account by the name of Lucas7Yoshi_, which has been a consistent source of datamined Fortnite content, has found a Limited Time Mode in the game files: “Blades.”

Little information was found in the files, although it appears the Infinity Blade will be a major part of the mode. Epic added the sword, which was the first of Fortnite’s Mythic weapon class, on Dec. 11 in the 7.01 update. It took little time for players to discover the excessive power of the weapon, and point out its flaws.

Epic agreed with players’ assertion that it was overpowered, and said it had “messed up” by adding the Infinity Blade, swiftly vaulting it on Dec. 14. The developer also said it would be re-evaluating the Mythic class.

This doesn’t seem to mean that the Infinity Blade and the future Mythic items are gone forever, though. This LTM could be another way for Epic to roll out its new ideas without angering the players in the regular playlists or competitive tournaments.

The Infinity Blade being added to all playlists was a mistake, but a LTM revolving around hand-to-hand combat may not be a bad idea for Epic and the future of Fortnite: Battle Royale.

If the leak is true, it’s likely that players will see the LTM added within the next several weeks. The 14 Days of Fortnite event, which features old and new Limited Time Modes, begins on Dec. 19 and would be an expected arrival time.
