Fortnite developer Epic Games said more Mythic items like the newly added Infinity Blade will come in the future. The company revealed that in a Reddit post last night.
“The presence of Mythic items in gameplay is to provide an interaction a step above the Legendary item functionality and something you’ll continue to see,” the Epic Games community manager. “The addition of items in this tier provide new and flavorful ways to interact with the map and generally shake up normal play across default modes.”
The responses to that post seemed desperate for changes. They mostly urged for the Infinity Blade and upcoming Mythic items to be excluded from standard and competitive game modes, like the regular solos, duos, and squads, and the Pop-up Cups. Instead, they want Epic to move these items to Limited Time Modes.
This request has precedence. Epic previously partnered with Marvel to bring Thano’s Infinity Gauntlet to the game as a special Limited Time Mode. The sword is weaker than the glove was, but it’s still an extremely powerful item.

Players are worried about the continued addition of Mythic items because they can barely counter the only one in place, the Infinity Blade. It’s making the game anything but fun to most people. Its unparalleled competitive power was proven during the Fortnite tournament Winter Royale earlier this week, when five out of the top seven players used the blade.
Epic said it’ll share information regarding their competitive philosophy when it comes to new items. Dot Esports has reached out to the company to get a comment about the role of the Infinity Blade in Winter Royale, but we have not received a reply at time of writing
As long as the blade is in the game, players will continue asking Epic to remove the item from the standard game modes as soon as possible. But if the company goes along with its plans, the rampage of Mythic items will be unstoppable.
