OG Dota 2 legend returns to active roster for new season

The legendary captain is officially back!

N0tail, one of Dota 2’s most celebrated figures and the co-founder of OG, has made a surprise comeback to the competitive scene, stepping back into action as an active player for OG’s main roster.

The 32-year-old Danish legend has resumed his old role as the position five support, marking his first official match appearance since The International 2021, where OG placed in the 7th to 8th bracket. For longtime fans of the game, seeing N0tail return to the stage is a moment of nostalgia mixed with excitement as a player who helped shape Dota 2’s competitive legacy.

His return comes after spending several months as OG’s head coach, a position he took on in May 2025 following a series of roster overhauls. At the time, N0tail explained that he would be “leading the charge” as coach and Dota 2 project lead, guiding a new generation of players through OG’s rebuilding phase.

However, things have taken an unexpected turn. In a recent update, the organization confirmed that N0tail has transitioned from the coaching seat back into the active lineup, joining Shad, Stojkov, MikSa, and daze.

This shift is a moment that redefines OG’s direction. For a team that has struggled to recapture its past dominance, bringing back the man who led them to glory twice at The International feels like a calculated spark. N0tail remains one of five players in history to lift the Aegis of Champions twice in a row, leading OG’s unforgettable back-to-back victories in 2018 and 2019.

His original run from 2012 to 2022 saw him evolve from a talented pubstar to one of Dota 2’s greatest minds, earning universal respect for both his in-game brilliance and his leadership off it. N0tail’s story with OG goes back to its very beginning in October 2015, when he helped form the organization that would later redefine competitive Dota 2.

During the early years of OG, n0tail helped them claim four Major titles: the Frankfurt Major in 2015, the Manila Major and Boston Major in 2016, and the Kiev Major in 2017. Few teams in esports have ever reached that level of consistency and dominance.

This latest return highlights OG’s determination to rebuild through experience and leadership. With young talents like Stojkov and MikSa still finding their footing at the top level, N0tail’s presence could be the anchor they need. His veteran perspective and his deep understanding of OG’s identity make him the perfect mentor on the battlefield rather than from the sidelines.

After more than three years away from active play, his decision to return shows just how deeply his competitive fire still burns. It’s not a rare sight in modern esports to see a legend of his stature step back into the arena; however, it speaks volumes about his belief in OG’s potential.

As the team prepares for its upcoming matches, the community’s eyes are locked on N0tail to see whether his return can spark a revival for the organization that once ruled Dota 2. Whether this comeback leads to another chapter of glory or simply marks a passionate player’s final run, one thing is certain: N0tail’s presence brings new energy and hope to OG’s ongoing journey back to the top.
