Does Renown carry over to Diablo 4 Season 5?

You'll still have your work cut out for you.

With Diablo 4 Season Five, Season of the Infernal Hordes, about to go live players are about to be up their necks in new events, rewards, mythic items, and even an exciting wave-based mode. For those who like horizontal content and getting all the bonus rewards though, you may wonder if your Renown carries over—and if so, by how much.

Does Renown carry over in Diablo 4 Season 5?

Renown does carry over into Diablo 4 Season Five. That being said, it’s limited to specific types of Renown and is split right down the middle.

Renown earned for finding the Altars of Lilith in each Diablo 4 region, waypoints, and exploring the Sanctuary will transfer over in Season Five. If you’ve finished the campaign, you’ll be able to unlock at least the first set of Renown rewards in the Region Progress tab. Not all of your waypoints will be unlocked; only a couple from each region will be there.

Renown earned from Strongholds, Side Quests, and Side Dungeons will not carry over. If you enjoy horizontal content or would like to get 100 percent Renown every season, you have something to look forward to outside of the seasonal content because you can still complete these quests, dungeons, and strongholds.

Why does keeping Renown in Diablo 4 matter?

As you complete the Renown earning activities across Sanctuary, you’ll earn Renown. You can unlock rewards like Gold, Skill Points, bonus XP, increased Murmuring Obols capacity, and Paragon points. In the endgame, every Skill and Paragon point counts, so I recommend completing as many of the renowned tasks as possible.

Because earning Renown is so time-consuming, one way I like to prepare for the next season is to spend a few moments every day finding an Altar or waypoint or exploring the Sanctuary in the Eternal Realm. When the season starts, I can focus on seasonal content, getting an early-game boost to help me progress faster. If you feel like doing Renown content that carries over, you can. If not, you don’t have to unless you need the rewards.

While not all the Renown you’re going to bank up will make it to Diablo 4‘s next season, it’s definitely enough to get you started after the update.
