Is the iconic Battlefield single-player experience returning this time?

Known for its all-out warfare and jaw-dropping realism, Battlefield has been redefining the FPS genre for over two decades. From chaotic large-scale battles to cinematic storytelling, it delivers a cutthroat competitive experience in a world war–style setting unlike any other game. While the series is best known for its multiplayer mayhem, many entries also include single-player campaigns for those who prefer to do it alone.

That said, Battlefield 2042 focused entirely on multiplayer, giving fans reason to worry about Battlefield 6’s fate. Thankfully, EA has already set the record straight. Here’s what you need to know.

The good news is, a single-player campaign mode has been developed for Battlefield 6. However, as of now, the open beta only features multiplayer modes. So if you’re eager to dive into the story, you’ll have to wait until the full game’s release on Oct. 10. You’ll also need to purchase the full game to access the mode.

While EA hasn’t revealed much about the upcoming campaign mode, a few teasers have been revealed to keep fans on the hook. For starters, it’s a “single-player campaign that has you fighting battles across the world as part of an elite Marine unit.” The story follows “a group of elite Marine raiders known as Dagger 1-3 as they fight to preserve global stability.” But this is not all the information we’ve got.

The official trailer and the multiplayer open beta offer plenty of clues for fans to anticipate ahead of the campaign’s release. Centered around a high-stakes global conflict between NATO and the dangerous faction Pax Armata, the story missions take players across multiple locations, including Cairo, Brooklyn, Gibraltar and Tajikistan, promising diverse combat scenarios as you work to uncover their plans.

In a May 13 interview with Inverse, Roman Campos-Oriola, creative director at EA Motive, and Philippe Ducharme, executive producer at EA Motive, revealed that Battlefield 6’s highly anticipated campaign draws inspiration from the 2024 film Civil War and the TV series Lioness. It focuses on “talented but ordinary people put in extraordinary situations,” which often leads to interesting and complex relationships and interactions. Although it is a single-player story, it aims to capture this dynamic to make the narrative more relatable and emotionally engaging.

Battlefield 6’s first open beta, featuring all upcoming multiplayer modes, went live on Aug. 7, beginning with early access for those with codes and then opening to everyone. At the time of writing, the open beta is on a break but will return on Aug. 14. The second phase ends on Aug. 17, which also marks the conclusion of this introductory open beta.

EA has not yet announced plans for a second open beta window.
