Battlefield 2042’s 9.2 patch on Aug. 18 has delivered some important upgrades to give the game a fresh look. This update introduces the Iwo Jima map, new weapons, and much more.
The map features an active volcano that can erupt during battles, several trenches, bunkers, and redesigned combat zones. Iwo Jima is a legendary Battlefield location, but with this update, it has been reimagined to suit the modern gameplay of BF2042.
The assault rifle allows for improved accuracy and reduced recoil in close-to-mid-range gunfights. In contrast, the Lynx sniper rifle is effective against armored vehicles. With that said, here’s everything you need to know that has made its way with the 9.2 update.

The legendary Iwo Jima returns

Iwo Jima has a dynamic and active volcano that impacts gameplay, and has authentic battleground features like boat landings, bunkers, and trenches, that look similar to the earlier versions, while giving you new tactical choices to align with BF2042‘s gameplay.
Its massive scale of 700×200 gives you ample room for all-out battles and will definitely make the current installment’s gameplay more exciting.
New weapons
Two new weapons have been added: the KFS2000 Assault Rifle and Lynx Sniper Rifle.

KFS2000 AR is built for great accuracy and easy handling, making it a perfect choice for versatility across combat situations. You can experiment with various loadouts and find the combination that perfectly aligns with your gameplay style.
The Lynx Sniper Rifle is a semi-automatic anti-material rifle that has a large cartridge and can destroy vehicles and environments. It gets unlocked instantly if you played the Battlefield 6 open beta.
New vehicles
Update 9.2 also introduces two iconic jets for All-Out Warfare:
- A10 Warthog
- SU-25TM Frogfoot
Both of these jets are ideal for taking out armored targets and come with new abilities, enhanced missile systems, widened cockpit views, adjusted cooldowns for missile countermeasures (18 seconds on new jets, whereas 12 seconds for others), and secondary emergency countermeasures for heavy, slower targets.
Free battle pass and Best of Portal event
From Aug. 18 to Oct 7, 2025, you can enjoy a free battle pass with over 20 rewards and a ton of cosmetic unlocks to unlock.
Apart from that, a Best of Portal event is scheduled from Sept. 2 to 30. All you need to do is log in for the “Best of Portal” event, and you can experience rotating game modes every 48 hours, while earning rewards that link between Battlefield 2042 and BF6.
Quality-of-life changes and fixes
The new update has also introduced some quality-of-life changes, including weapon tuning where the attachment UI accuracy is now more transparent, while fixing grenade launcher accuracy and vault weapon stats.
The NTW-50 now deals more damage to light vehicles and gadgets. Speaking of vehicles, their handling has also been improved. The jets have better maneuverability, new hints for pilots, smoother eject mechanics, and reduced risk of blackouts from G-force effects.
The devs also shipped some bug fixes, from UI visuals to inconsistent damage and gadget handling.
