Where to find Sundelions in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Farm ingredients for your gloom cure recipes.

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Sundelions are an important material because recipes made with Sundelions restore health depleted by gloom. This makes them a highly valuable resource if you want to explore the Depths. Unfortunately, though, they’re more common in some locations than others.

What are Sundelions used for in Tears of the Kingdom?

Sundelions have a lot of use in Tears of the Kingdom. Found in places where natural sunlight is, these handy flowers are incredibly useful for fighting off gloom. When consumed on their own, they will heal one gloom affected heart.

When cooked in a recipe, they add the gloom recovery effect to a meal. Here are some of the best recipes that use Sundelions.

  • Sunny Cheesy Risotto and Omelet = Sundelion + Hateno Cheese + Hylian Rice/Bird Egg + Rock Salt (+3 Gloom Hearts replenished, +5 Gloom Hearts Replenished with Bird Egg)
  • Sunny Veggie Porridge = Sundelion + Hylian Rice + Fresh Milk (+3 Gloom Hearts replenished)
  • Sunny Creamy Soup = Sundelion + Fresh Milk + Rock Salt + Any Meat/Fish (+3 Gloom Hearts replenished)
  • Sunny Steamed Foods = Sundelion + Any Meat/Rock Salt/Hylian Tomato/Fruit/Fish (+3 Gloom Hearts replenished)

Sundelions are also used in a variety of quests in Tears of the Kingdom. You’ll need some Sundelions to make porridge for Lasli’s grandmother in the side quest “Gloom-Borne Illness” at coordinates 1845, -0969, 0115. In the side quest “Mattison’s Independence,” you’ll need 10 Sundelions to dye their hot air balloon with to make it bright.

Visit Sky Islands

If you want to hunt down a lot of Sundelions, you’ll need to go to the skies. Sundelions can be found all over Sky Islands in Tears of the Kingdom. Keep in mind that they only grow in sunny places, so you won’t find any on sky islands in the colder regions of the map. Here are some of the best islands to find them on.

  • South Eldin Sky Archipelago (coordinates 1648, 1184, 1316)
  • Courage Island (coordinates -2212, 0955,1637)
  • East Gerudo Sky Archipelago (coordinates -1958, -1812, 1140)

Kill Yiga Clan members

Yiga Clan members are found throughout the overworld and in the Depths, the latter being particularly good because of the high volume of Yiga members. As long as you follow the Yiga Clan questline, you’ll fight plenty of Yiga Clan members and farm plenty of sundelions off of that. Remember, Yiga Clan members are the only enemies that drop sundelions

The best way to farm Sundelions is by visiting and re-visiting areas where a lot of them grow. As we mentioned before, this means traveling back and forth between optimal sky islands repeatedly. This method should net you a vast quantity of Sundelions fairly quickly.

How long does it take Sundelions to spawn?

The amount of time it takes for plants to respawn in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom varies, as the game seems to have a very similar respawning system to that of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

In Breath of the Wild, every 60 seconds of active game time after being picked, there was a one percent chance of a plant respawning. Tears of the Kingdom seems to have the same system or one very much like it, so your best bet is to pick Sundelions, then go away and do something else in the game for about an hour. When you come back, at least some of the Sundelions you picked should have respawned, and you can pick more ingredients for your anti-gloom recipes.
