Cloud9 officially adds Golden following his trial period

Golden will try to help defend Cloud9's Major title in September.

Maikhil “Golden” Selim has ended his trial period as a stand-in for Cloud9 and secured a spot on the active roster.

Cloud9 announced today that they are making Golden a “fixture” of their roster, after his brief tryout at the ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier last month. He will continue to fill the in-game leader role for the team following the August player break and into the FACEIT London Major in September.

Golden’s European counterpart Martin “STYKO” Styk is still technically on trial for the team, however. The former Mousesports star joined Cloud9 prior to ESL One Cologne in early July, and it seems he’s continuing his trial going into the London Major. The duo talked about the changes in an interview with HLTV at the ELEAGUE Premier, saying that they were testing them as teammates both inside and outside CS:GO.

“Coaches, players, and myself were impressed with the professionalism and structure Golden brought to our team,” Cloud9 CEO Jack Etienne said in the team’s announcement. “The organization is thrilled to be moving forward with him as a part of Cloud9.”

So far, the former Fnatic IGL is adapting Cloud9 to his European style of play, without changing the fundamental styles of each of the players, according to Golden and STYKO. Even though it seems the firepower isn’t completely there for Cloud9, Golden assured critics that, “You can play very good CS without needing to frag.”
