When does Destiny 2’s maintenance end?

It wasn't in your destiny to play Destiny 2 today.

Destiny 2 servers require some maintenance when patches are released, but they usually stay down for a longer period of time when it comes to larger releases like seasons and expansions.

Though some titles have maintenance during off-peak hours, Destiny 2 updates usually roll out at reset (5pm UTC or 11am CT without Daylight Savings Time). Gone are the days when maintenance meant a quick 15-minute break before the update. Bungie has steadily been having longer downtime windows and with a bigger frequency, so being ganked by a surprise maintenance period is barely a rare occasion.

This shift affects both downtime for major releases (such as seasons) and general server outages for regular hotfixes. While players knew to expect bigger downtimes for bigger content, even an average Tuesday can pull you out of the game for a few hours.

When do the Destiny 2 servers come back online?

Maintenance generally ends at reset, but the Nov. 20 downtime was an exception to this rule. The servers are slated to return at 1pm CT, barring any further technical issues—though Bungie will inform players through its support channels in the case of more interruptions.

Destiny 2 was meant to return at reset (11am CT), but Bungie ran into undisclosed issues during the maintenance. Because of this, the studio has extended the planned outage by at least two hours around an hour before the original timeline.

If it’s a major update, brace for the “One moment please…” message that’s typical of bigger releases. This message indicates that too many players are attempting to log in at the same time.
