Metal Gear Solid collection has issues that will be fixed post-launch, Konami says

Addressing issues in advance? Classy.

The Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 1 is coming out tomorrow, Oct. 24, but Konami said today it will have several issues at launch that will be addressed with a future patch.

In an interview with IGN, Konami confirmed that players should expect to see several issues, including subtitles that aren’t synced with the audio, typos, aspect ratio inconsistencies, slowdowns during cutscenes, and various other bugs and glitches. PC players won’t be able to switch between windowed and full-screen mode and will require a controller to play Metal Gear Solid 1, according to Konami.

Admitting one’s mistakes is admirable, but this announcement is interesting because the collection isn’t even out officially. At the same time, we can’t ignore that some of these games are over 30 years old.

In 2011, Konami released the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and both versions had their own share of bugs and issues that haven’t been addressed to this day. In 2020, several Metal Gear Solid games came to Good Old Games in poor states as well.

Given Konami’s history of porting Metal Gear Solid games to modern platforms and systems, it’s no wonder the Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 1 will also launch with some issues, especially on Nintendo Switch, where the framerate will be capped at 30 FPS.

With that said, at least Konami did give us a heads-up. Many fans likely hope the post-launch patch will also address issues that have been plaguing past MGS re-releases. Until the Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater remake comes out, this collection will just have to do.
