Revival Catalyst is an interactable item in Valdrakken that allows you to turn your regular piece of gear into a tier set. First introduced in Shadowlands, Catalyst has undergone numerous changes in Dragonflight, but World of Warcraft devs are reverting it back to the Shadowlands state in Patch 10.1.
On March 20, WoW dev put together an extensive blue post discussing the latest updates to Dragonflight coming in Patch 10.1. Among many other changes coming to the game in Patch 10.1, Blizzard is reverting the Catalyst system back to the Shadowlands state.
So, instead of weekly quests that give you Catalyst charges, you’ll get a new charge per character every week. At the beginning of season two of Dragonflight, all players will receive one Catalyst charge. Unlike Catalyst from Shadowlands season three, Dragonflight Catalyst won’t cost you anything.
Although the Dragonflight Catalyst system had its advantages, WoW team believes this system was a downgrade from the Shadowlands one. “(…) we ended up taking a step backwards on one of the founding goals of the Catalyst system itself: mid- or late-season catch-up for new or returning players,” explained WoW dev.
By introducing these changes, tier sets will once again become more accessible for everyone and the Catalyst charges won’t be “late to the party” like in season one of Dragonflight when everyone was already running around Valdrakken with full tier sets.
