A new Overwatch team is preparing to earn its spot in Blizzard’s upcoming Overwatch League: Laser Kittenz.
Emerging from the ruins of Europe’s Bench Boys lineup, Laser Kittenz fields four former Bench Boys players, Finley “Kyb” Adisi, LuÃs “Greyy” Perestrelo, Carl “crems” Aspehult, and Sergi “Winghaven” Torras, alongside Nikolaj “Zaprey” Moses and Herman “Nesh” Kobrin. Chris “spazzo” Infante will coach the Laser Kittenz, but will also be available as a stand-in support should the team need him.
“I looked into the best opportunities and even though there were good established teams that I’ve spoken to, such as ex-Cyclone, I really liked some of the free agents that were available,” Laser Kittenz CEO and founder Ali “Alicus” Saba told Dot Esports. “So I approached them and we held trials for a while and selected the best options, which was to roll with this seven man roster.”
Though the team has only practiced as a complete unit for a few days now, Laser Kittenz will debut its new roster in the European Overwatch PIT Championship. “I’m confident in my players’ game sense and mechanics and I look forward to them showcasing it in coming tournaments,” Saba added.
Saba also expects the Laser Kittenz to participate in Blizzard’s upcoming Overwatch League. With Overwatch League slots in certain areas being reported to cost upwards of $15 million, Laser Kittenz will need investment, Saba said. That’s already in the works, however. “We are currently in talks for that and still exploring our best avenue,” he said. “Most importantly, we are waiting on clarity from Blizzard and for them to start the rumored bidding process for the spots.”
But regardless of the cost, the Laser Kittenz are determined to be there. “We have no doubt that the Overwatch League, which will be the highest level of competitive, is exactly where we belong,” Saba said.
