Bungie has revived Marathon as an extraction shooter, coming to all major platforms as a premium multiplayer title later this year. While PlayStation Studios publishes it, Sony hasn’t limited the release to its own ecosystem, given Bungie’s past reach across PC and Xbox with franchises like Destiny and Halo.
While it’s still half a year away from release, it’s fair to ask whether Marathon will be available on any subscription service, including Xbox Game Pass. Here’s everything we know so far.
Will Marathon be on Game Pass?
Marathon is not coming to Xbox Game Pass, and there’s no indication from either PlayStation Studios or Microsoft that it will be available on the service.
Marathon is being developed by Bungie, which Sony Interactive Entertainment owns after it purchased the studio back in 2022 for a whopping $3.6 billion. This is its major live-service studio operating at the moment, and while it’s expanded its release platforms to facilitate Xbox Series S|X and PC players, the chances of the title releasing on Xbox’s subscription service are practically zero.

Given the fact that Sony is funding the title in its entirety, it would make more sense for it to release Marathon on one of its higher tiers of PlayStation Plus.
This isn’t a free-to-play title either, and while Bungie has yet to reveal the pricing, we know this isn’t a $70 game. This was confirmed by the official X (formerly Twitter) account of Marathon.
Pricing will be revealed in the Summer. We’re expecting something similar to Concord, which was priced at $40.
Marathon release date
Marathon is releasing on PC via Steam, Xbox Series S|X, and PlayStation 5 on Sept. 23, 2025.

After the failure of Concord, all eyes are on Marathon, especially Sony, which has had only one major breakout live-service title: Helldivers 2. The reveal was promising, and a dedicated Bungie fanbase will at least give it a shot. It remains to be seen whether players will find it exciting and engaging enough to ditch their go-to extraction shooters for it.
Bungie and PlayStation Studios need to nail the pricing for Marathon, as it will play a big role in players’ decisions to purchase the title. Games like Marvel Rivals offer a wealth of content at no cost, and it’ll be interesting to see whether Bungie’s plan to attract a large audience while charging for both the game and the battle pass will pay off.
Either way, one thing is certain: Marathon is not coming to Xbox Game Pass, but it might show up on PlayStation Plus.
