American senior esports team, the Golden Snipers, just challenged Japan’s Matagi Snipers to an international showdown. If the challenge gets accepted, then it’ll go down during DreamHack Dallas 2022. The Golden Snipers, which are a part of Original Gamer Life, have a roster of players who are aged 60 and over. First responders and American military veterans make up the roster. The experiences of these gamers play a significant role in securing in-game victories, the team believes. Meanwhile, the Matagi Snipers are also an all-senior esports team. The Matagi Snipers were established to enable elderly gamers to connect with the younger generation, and to showcase the health benefits of esports. “We’re both honored and excited to extend this challenge to compete against the highly adept Matagi Snipers,” Golden Snipers Team Captain Abbe “DieHardBirdie” Borg said. “Facing off against the best in the world is what drives me, but for the team, it’s about much more than winning; we are aiming to prove that age does not affect skill level. You just have to have the guts to play.” Original Gamer Life CEO Brandon Sivret also expressed eagerness to take on the Matagi Snipers. Sivret added that Original Gamer Life aims to encourage more social activity among less popular demographics who enjoy gaming. The Golden Snipers are still accepting applications to further expand their roster. Senior gamers can apply through the Original Gamer Life website. “Age is just a number, and mine just happens to be golden,” DieHardBirdie said when he and Original Gamer Life first introduced the all-senior esports team. “With Golden Snipers, my primary goal is to abolish stereotypes and help fellow gray gamers sharpen their skills and rise above the ageism that runs rampant in the industry.” Both DieHardBirdie and Original Gamer Life share the same vision of encouraging the physical and emotional well-being of players.
