Space dragon fantasy reimagined in Aurelion Sol gameplay update, pushed to League’s PBE

Goodbye stars, hello cosmic destruction.

A new year marks new changes coming to League of Legends, and among them is a long-awaited update to a champion that has retained one of the lowest pick rates among all champions since his release.

The comprehensive gameplay update for Aurelion Sol, the Star Forger, has been patched into League’s PBE files, adding completely new abilities to the champion while retaining the original model that has remained iconic in the game for years. A video posted by SkinSpotlights today has showcased what each of the new abilities looks like—acknowledging a completely different direction for the champion than his original kit.

Most notably, three stars no longer revolve around Aurelion Sol at all points of the game. Instead, a new passive for the champion, known as Cosmic Creator, increases the effectiveness of his abilities as he accrues stacks of Stardust. This can be obtained by damaging enemies with abilities.

Aurelion Sol’s previously-revealed updated Q, Breath of Light, makes a reappearance, dealing more damage the longer it targets a single enemy while growing stronger with Stardust. His W returns in a slightly changed format, now allowing him to travel a short distance with a seemingly shorter cooldown. The Star Forger can also cast his Q freely with increased damage when using his W.

Another new ability joining Aurelion Sol’s kit thanks to the removal of his stars is his E, Singularity, which now acts as a small area-of-effect black hole with a strong gravitational pull. This ability works similarly to Orianna and Rell’s ultimates and will execute enemies trapped within under a certain HP threshold. The black hole will grow in size and deal more damage with more Stardust.

Aurelion Sol’s new ultimate, known as Falling Star, hurls a giant meteor at enemies from the cosmos, stunning opponents that are struck by it. Gathering enough Stardust turns this ability into The Skies Descend, making the impact larger, knocking up enemies hit, and unleashing a shockwave that travels an incredibly large distance—the teaser showed it expand across almost the entire Rift.

It is currently unclear as to when Aurelion Sol’s comprehensive gameplay update will be made available on League’s live servers, but it is expected this massive overhaul to the champion’s abilities will be in testing for a number of weeks. In the meantime, players can look forward to the release of a midscope update for Jax alongside Patch 13.1 on Jan. 10.

Update Jan. 5 1:52pm CT: Information regarding the specifics of Aurelion Sol’s abilities has been extracted, though exact numbers and damage ratios are not yet known. This piece has been updated to reflect the discoveries.
