New League event gives players the chance to widen their champion pool

It's a real Pool Party.

Summer is here, and with it comes the newest League of Legends Pool Party event.

This year, the annual Pool Party skins are going to Gangplank, Caitlyn, and Zoe, along with Chromas to spice up each one. Some that already have skins in the Pool Party line will also be receiving Chromas. The list of champions includes Taric, Rek’Sai, Leona, Graves, Fiora, and Lulu. There will also be a set of three new emotes for players to purchase.

Like past events, this one will feature a set of missions for players to complete. Rewards include Blue Essence, champion shards, and Hextech crafting loot, instead of tokens like we saw during the recent Vs. event.

Orbs containing more loot are also making a return with this event, albeit in a new form. Instead of being craftable with tokens, these new Position Orbs can be purchased for 295 RP each. There are five in total, with one for each position on Summoner’s Rift. Each will drop a champion shard for a random champion based on role; for example, an ADC Orb will drop only shards for marksmen.

Orbs will also have a chance to drop Gemstones, Gemstone skins, or the all-new Crab Bag. Crab bags contain six skin shards, with one coming from each of the six roles—assassin, fighter, mage, marksman, support, and tank. Crab Bags cannot be purchased individually, but players can purchase bundles containing them.

The event will be live Aug. 2 at 10am CT and will run until Aug. 13.
