Forget Tristana—high-rank LoL players are dominating mid lane with an unorthodox ADC

A new queen is here.

Until her nerfs in Patch 14.14, Tristana dominated the League of Legends mid lane meta. After the changes, she fell off significantly, but players almost instantly found another pick in her place.

At the time of writing, another AD carry is dominating the mid lane in high ranks in Patch 14.15. In the Diamond+ category, Quinn currently sits on a 54.27 percent win rate, according to a League stat site, U.GG.

The case was similar in Patch 14.14, which ended with Quinn as the highest-rated champion among the high-ranked mid lane players. Quinn’s mid lane domination is not a result of any direct changes to the champion since the last time she was tweaked was in Patch 14.4—and that was only a bug fix. Previously, Quinn saw minor direct nerfs in Patch 13.20.

Nevertheless, Quinn has the same range as Tristana: 525. With her early game poke and immense mobility, it’s relatively easy to gain dominance in the laning phase. Additionally, most players are picking Electrocute and building both Profane Hydra and Opportunity in most of Quinn’s games, elevating her burst to another level.

One major difference between Tristana and Quinn is late-game prowess. The former has been known as one of the most powerful scaling champions in League, while the latter seems less so.

It feels like the mid lane is returning to its roots, however. Besides Quinn, the top 10 best champions in the role, win rate-wise, are mages. These include Gragas, Qiyana, Zoe, Kennen, and Neeko, with the latter two occupying the podium so far with win rates over 53 percent.

Perhaps we’ll see some power shifts this week with the release of Patch 14.16.
