Never could anyone have imagined that Bloodborne would become so playable on the PC so fast. It has got to the point that players are now successfully beating the entire game using the rapidly developing PS4 emulator.
According to Reddit user Yapush_Khu, they beat the entirety of Bloodborne for the first time with the new version of the ShadPS4 emulator that has become the focal point of emulation development over the past year or so. Driven seemingly by nothing more than sheer love for FromSoftware’s gothic Soulslike and a wish to see the game updated and ported to the PC, the emulator has managed to bring the elusive Sony title up to speed and allow players to beat the game with as few tweaks as possible. “I started this playthrough with a brand new character and the image above is right after you beat Mergo’s Wet Nurse,” the player said in a post explaining their emulated Bloodborne journey on Sept. 25.
The player also specified the few fixes they used to make the game run smoothly, as the emulator’s default settings are not yet enough to maintain a pleasant experience. With their beefy specs and these tweaks, they claim they could play the title at a 1080p resolution locked to 30 fps, apparently keeping the frames low for stability reasons. They also said that dying can mess up the playthrough, but so long as you restart the emulator and boot the game up again, everything should return to normal.
Bloodborne has been the driving force behind the development of the ShadPS4 emulator, the first true emulation software for Sony’s best-selling console. While we’ve had the pleasure of emulating the PlayStation 3 and older consoles for over a decade and a half, the PS4 has remained elusive all throughout its lifespan and during the first years of the PS5’s emergence.
However, it seems we are within spitting distance of making Bloodborne, the one title Sony refuses to remake, port, remaster, or even acknowledge, available to the world of PC gaming with the magical power of emulation.
