The Amazon streaming series based on the popular post-apocalyptic Fallout franchise from Bethesda, also named Fallout, has been given an official release date for its Prime Video exclusive premiere.
The show will premiere on April 12, 2024, according to a joint post from Bethesda and the show’s official Instagram account.
The post gives just a single tidbit of potential additional information, an official year setting in 2075, based on the RobCo copyright in the first section of text. RobCo Industries was a major robotics and computer corporation before the bombs fell during the Great War in Fallout canon, and several Fallout games feature explorable RobCo facilities.
The setting of the show itself will be a post-apocalyptic version of Los Angeles. In Fallout canon, Los Angeles is part of the New California Republic, a new federal republic of California states and territories that formed after the bombs fell. This very expansionist republic is a prominent faction in both Fallout 2 and Fallout: New Vegas. Located in L.A. will be Vault 33, which has been shown in two separate teasers from Prime Video, with many fans expecting this Vault to be a significant location of the show’s plot.
The show stars Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Moisés Arias, Kyle MacLachlan, and Dale Dickey. Bethesda executive producer and game director Todd Howard is one of the show’s executive producers, as is the duo behind the critically acclaimed HBO series Westworld, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who are also writing for the show.
Fans of Fallout were split on the show when pictures of the set leaked this past August, with some expressing concerns about the set looking “low budget,” while others expressed excitement about Nolan and Joy’s involvement with the show. An official trailer for the show has still yet to be released.
