Sportradar gains gaming vendor license in United Arab Emirates

The sport and esports tech firm expands to the Middle East.

Global sports technology leader Sportradar Group AG has secured a gaming-related vendor license in the United Arab Emirates, marking a key milestone as the country’s regulated betting and gaming framework continues to take shape.

The permit, granted by the UAE’s General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), allows Sportradar to supply its suite of premier sports and esports data, betting, and gaming solutions to licensed operators in the country.

“The license, operational with immediate effect, affords Sportradar the opportunity to provide its products and services to licensed operators,” the company said in a statement. “Sportradar looks forward to bringing its 20-plus year expertise and proprietary sports technology to operators and clients in the region.”

Sportradar joins a growing list of international firms entering the UAE’s regulated gaming space. As of Oct. 21, 17 companies have been awarded gaming-related vendor licences, alongside one land-based gaming license held by Wynn Resorts for its upcoming casino and a single lottery license granted to the UAE Lottery.

The GCGRA, established in Sept. 2023 and chaired by former MGM Resorts International CEO Jim Murren, oversees all commercial gaming activities in the country. The regulator issued its first vendor licence in late 2023 as part of a broader effort to develop a structured and tightly controlled gaming industry.

Experts view the UAE as a potential regional hub for gaming and premium sports betting in the Middle East, should other Gulf nations choose to liberalize their markets. Sportradar’s entry positions it well to capitalize on this long-term potential.

The move gives Sportradar the opportunity to bring its proven technology to a new and high-growth regional market. The Switzerland-based company provides sports data, analytics, and integrity services to various sports federations and leagues, media outlets, and global betting operators, including high-profile names such as the NBA, UEFA, William Hill, DraftKings, and FanDuel.

With the UAE’s regulatory landscape rapidly evolving, Sportradar’s newly acquired licence represents both an early foothold and a strategic bet on the future of gaming in one of the world’s fastest-developing markets.
