The Lightfall expansion for Destiny 2 has brought with it a plethora of weapons that have already begun to define the new meta for both PvE and PvP content. One class of weaponry that has gone under the radar so far has been the Heavy grenade launchers, which received a hefty 20 percent damage buff against bosses and an even heftier 40 percent damage buff against minor enemies.
Yet Regnant, the Void Heavy grenade launcher that comes with Season of Defiance, refuses to be ignored with one of the most impressive perk pools available on the weapon type.
With options available for both Void-centric builds and damage-dealing ones, Regnant will have something for every kind of Guardian who is able to get their hands on it. As with all seasonal weapons, Regnant is craftable too, which will allow players access to the Enhanced versions of each perk once they have the levels ground to forge them. Whether it’s Explosive Light or Destabilizing Rounds that you’re bringing to the party, Regnant is a weapon pattern you won’t regret farming for.
Whether you’re sitting on a crafted version but unsure what perks to shape onto it, or you need further convincing to put a Heavy grenade launcher in your inventory, here are our picks for the Regnant’s god rolls and best perks in Lightfall.
Regnant PvE god roll in Destiny 2
- Launcher Barrel: Smart Drift Control
- Magazine: Spike Grenades
- First perk: Auto-Loading Holster or Envious Assassin
- Second perk: Explosive Light
Explosive Light has risen to prominence as the premiere perk to put on anything high ordnance since Lightfall launched with the new Armor Charge modding system. Orbs of Power are back at the center of every Destiny 2 build, and that means building stacks of Explosive Light for additional damage is easier than it ever has been. If you’re using Regnant for boss damage, this perk is irreplaceable—and the extra stack that Enhanced Explosive Light lets you carry is perfect if you’re rocking it with Envious Assassin in the third column.
The choice between Auto-Loading Holster and Envious Assassin for your accompanying perk entirely depends on the type of player you are. If boss damage for you involves dealing Heavy ammo damage and then hot swapping to a weapon like Izanagi’s Burden, Auto-Loading Holster is the classic utility perk to pick up to cut down on the time usually reserved for reloading Regnant.
But if you want to do as much damage as possible, as fast as possible, Envious Assassin is worth a look at. This new Lightfall perk will allow you to overflow the magazine by just defeating targets with your other weapons prior to pulling it out. You’ll burn through your reserves quickly, but if the Heavy ammo bricks are flowing, it’s a small price to pay for the damage numbers you’ll accrue.
If it isn’t boss damage that you’re building toward though, the combination of Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds that Regnant can take on is a dreamy piece of synergy for any Void-wielding Guardian. Destabilizing Rounds fired into a crowd of combatants debuffs them with ease, in turn activating Repulsor Brace’s overshield effect to dramatically up your survivability in enemy-dense encounters. It won’t be as popular a build as the Explosive Light route, but no less deadly in the correct context.
Regnant PvP god roll in Destiny 2
- Launcher Barrel: Smart Drift Control
- Magazine: High-Explosive Ordnance
- First perk: Repulsor Brace
- Second perk: Destabilizing Rounds
To some degree, you have to ask yourself if you really plan on building out a Regnant specifically honed for use in a PvP environment. Heavy grenade launchers aren’t a bad choice for your Heavy slot, but there are better weapons out there that you’ll find far greater success with. Regnant’s perk pool reflects this, with very few options that really hold any benefit to a PvP player planning to use the weapon against fellow Guardians.
If you did want to put your best foot forward though, the Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds combination is your best bet. With only limited ammo available, you need perks that require very little to get going, and these two perks are perfect for that. The synergy with the Void subclass is an added bonus.
You can’t really go wrong when it comes to the barrel and magazine, but High-Explosive Ordnance allows you to enjoy a larger blast radius to help confirm kills without sacrificing your other statistics. You’ll lose two grenades in the magazine, but since you would never have been able to have those extra two grenades anyway due to the nature of Heavy ammo in the Crucible, it won’t be missed on a PvP build.
It may not be the most conventional of PvP Heavy weapons, but you might catch a confident Guardian in their Super off-guard with the 20 percent damage buff, and even that alone can be reason enough to keep one in your back pocket.
