CS2 skin collectors can finally breathe a sigh of relief thanks to new Steam feature

After months of anxiety over potential scams and accidental trades, Counter-Strike 2 skin collectors finally have a safety net, and fans are rejoicing over the added security for their beloved weapon skins.

The CS2 skin economy is worth millions of dollars, with individual skins sometimes selling for thousands. This makes the community a prime target for scammers, and players have widely requested long-overdue protection like Trade Protection.

Steam’s latest Trade Protection feature adds an extra layer of protection for high-value trades, allowing you to reverse recent trades. This is designed to recover items if you lose control of your account due to malware or phishing scams. 

While Steam support has always helped players recover their accounts, now you can do the same for your precious skins. Trades now come with a seven-day window, allowing you to reverse a transaction and report any malicious activity targeting your prized items.

You can simply head to your Trade History page to reverse a trade and safely recover your CS2 skins. Previously, players who fell victim to scams or accidental trades had little recourse, often losing their valuable items permanently.

This protection only applies to items marked as Trade Protected (a symbol mark in yellow), which includes trades completed after the feature goes live. Anything traded before then, or items without this status, can’t be undone. After seven days, the trade is finalized. 

Currently, Trade Protection is only available for CS2, but Valve has said it “plans to make this available to other games,” which could mean that other popular games on Steam with a Marketplace will also get the protection and trade freely with other players.
