How to fix Battlefield 6 SecureBoot error

Don't worry, it's for your security.

Preloading for the Battlefield 6 open beta is now live, but many players are running into the frustrating Battlefield 6 SecureBoot error.

After preloading the open beta and attempting to launch the game, users are being blocked by this message: “SecureBoot is not enabled.” While it may seem like a technical glitch, this error is actually an intentional security measure implemented by EA DICE to support the enhanced anti-cheat system for the latest Battlefield installment.

Fortunately, this issue can be resolved with a few system adjustments. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to enable Secure Boot and fix the error so you’re ready to jump into the action as soon as the beta goes live.

Battlefield 6, along with other EA titles, requires Secure Boot to be enabled, a built-in security feature available on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Secure Boot helps ensure that your PC only loads trusted software during startup, creating a secure foundation for the operating system and any applications that run on top of it.

By enabling Secure Boot, EA’s Javelin Anticheat system can more effectively detect and prevent malicious behavior. This includes identifying and blocking kernel-level cheats, rootkits, memory injection tools, hardware ID spoofers, virtual machines, and other advanced cheat mechanisms designed to bypass traditional security layers. It also helps protect the integrity of the anti-cheat system itself from tampering.

With Secure Boot active, EA’s Battlefield Positive Play team can better enforce fair play, significantly reducing the presence of cheaters and enhancing the overall experience for legitimate players. With its importance in maintaining game security, Secure Boot is a mandatory requirement to launch Battlefield 6 on PC. If it’s disabled on your system, you’ll receive an in-game message prompting you to enable it before proceeding.

If you’re running Battlefield 6 on a PC with Windows 10 or Windows 11, enabling Secure Boot is essential for launching the game. Follow these step-by-step instructions to turn it on:

  1. Press the Windows Key and search for “Change advanced startup options.”
  2. Under the Advanced startup section, click “Restart now.” Your computer will restart and boot into the Advanced Startup Menu.
  3. From the Advanced Startup menu, select “Troubleshoot” > “Advanced options” > “UEFI Firmware Settings.”
  4. Click “Restart” to enter your BIOS or UEFI interface. This menu varies by manufacturer, so it may look different depending on your device.
  5. Once inside the BIOS/UEFI settings, navigate to the Boot tab. Look for Secure Boot State:
    • If it’s set to Disabled, change it to Enabled. If the option is greyed out or locked, you may need to reset Secure Boot keys to factory defaults.
    • Some systems require you to set an administrator password in the BIOS to unlock Secure Boot settings. If you’re unsure, consult your PC or motherboard manufacturer’s support page for specific instructions. Also ensure the OS Type is set to Windows UEFI Mode (not Legacy).
  6. Go to the Exit tab and select “Save Changes and Reset.” Your system will reboot with Secure Boot now enabled.

Make sure that TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) is also enabled, as it is often a requirement for anti-cheat systems in modern games. You can find more details in EA’s official Secure Boot support article.

Once Secure Boot and its dependencies are properly configured, launch Battlefield 6 again. If everything is set up correctly, the game should start without any further warnings. In some cases, an extra restart may be needed for the changes to fully take effect.

Now that Secure Boot is enabled, it’s a good idea to double-check that your PC meets the minimum and recommended system requirements for Battlefield 6 to ensure smooth performance. You can also check the maps and modes at launch, some of which are set to be made available during the early access and open beta weekends.
