The Necrochasm auto rifle from Destiny as seen in the sequel, with basically the same look and details.

How to get Necrochasm in Destiny 2

It's back.

Destiny 2‘s Crota’s End is bringing many elements from the original into the sequel, including the famed Necrochasm Exotic auto rifle. Players who want it won’t need to rely on RNG this time around, so long as they can beat Crota—which has proven to be quite the challenge on contest mode.

Though Necrochasm is dropping as part of a quest, Bungie has maintained some of its aspects from Destiny, including the ability to evolve Husk of the Pit into Necrochasm.

There was a shortcut if you were brave enough to take on Crota in contest mode, but now that it’s over, you’ll have to actually beat Crota and obtain a questline to continue your hunt for this Exotic auto rifle.

Is Necrochasm a quest Exotic?

Necrochasm is available as part of the Bottomless Pit quest, which you can obtain by finishing the Crota’s End raid. The quest is available on both normal difficulty and in contest mode, though players who beat Crota within the first 48 hours will have the quest auto-complete. If you don’t take down Crota in contest mode, you can still obtain the quest, though you’ll have to jump through a few hoops before you can use Necrochasm.

Getting Necrochasm during Crota’s End contest mode

Players who beat the Crota’s End raid can access the Bottomless Pit quest from the raid vendor, with a notable upside: the quest will be automatically completed for anyone who takes down Crota during the first 48 hours. It’s a worthy prize for anyone who takes on the challenge and the sheer DPS wall that is the Crota encounter on raid mode.

They will also obtain all the rewards for the quest, including Husk of the Pit, a fully masterworked Eidolon Ally, and, of course, Necrochasm. These rewards will go on your inventory once you grab the quest during contest mode, so make sure to free up some of your Kinetic weapons or your Postmaster.

Getting Necrochasm outside of Crota’s End contest mode

If you didn’t get Necrochasm by completing the raid on contest mode, you’ll have to obtain the Bottomless Pit quest from the raid vendor—though you won’t need to shell out any currencies for it. After that, you’ll need to progress through the quest normally.

The first part of the quest tells you to defeat 100 Hive with Husk of the Pit, with enemies killed in Crota’s End granting additional progress. You can go anywhere in the system for it, though we recommend Grasp of Avarice or Altars of Sorrow. Once you’ve killed 100 Hive enemies, you’ll evolve your Husk of the Pit into Eidolon Ally, which comes with a static roll of Perpetual Motion/Rangefinder and the Cursed Thrall origin trait.

The second step in the Necrochasm quest asks players to collect Essence of the Oversoul. This resource is a random drop from encounters within Crota’s End, though you can also obtain it by completing specific challenges. Necrochasm will be yours after you’ve obtained 20 Essence of the Oversoul, which has its own RNG component to it.

We’re looking forward to getting our hands on Necrochasm after beating Crota instead of relying on RNG. We’ve heard wonders about it from our friends who had it in Destiny, and if previous experience is anything to go by, our RNG luck is not the best. It took anything between 40-60 runs for each Vex Mythoclast, Collective Obligation, and Touch of Malice, so if you’re in the same boat as us, it’s reassuring to know you’ll just need to do a quest and rely on a smaller amount of luck to obtain it.
