Baldur’s Gate 3: What happens if you kill Kagha in BG3?

There's the fast and the slow way.

Kagha is the most unlikable Baldur’s Gate 3 character in Act One. Even her fellow Druids have strong negative opinions of her. The tension between Kagha and the Tieflings at Druid Grove even prompts Zevlor to ask you to kill her. But should you kill Kagha in Baldur’s Gate 3?

There are two main routes to follow if you want to kill Kagha. One is very messy and has severe implications for the story, while the other takes longer, but the opportunity is presented to you more naturally. Here’s what happens if you kill Kagha in Baldur’s Gate 3.

What happens if you kill Kagha in BG3? All consequences

There are two possible endings if you decide to kill Kagha, and it will depend on the timing when you decide to end her. Here’s the breakdown of both scenarios:

ScenarioConsequences
Killing Kagha before investigating herIf you decide to take her out before finding more details about her and the ritual, it ends in Druids turning on Tieflings. The only way to survive is to defeat them all, and Druids won’t side with you at all.
Killing Kagha after investigating herThe best case scenario is that you kill Kagha after discovering the truth about the Shadow Druids and then talking about it with her. There are no negative consequences if you defeat her after that point, and Zevlor and Tieflings will be thankful.

Killing Kagha before investigating her (the bad ending)

If you kill Kagha before investigating her, all Druids at Druid Grove will turn against you and the Tieflings. You will have to kill them all to survive and advance in the story with the Save the Refugees quest with the Tieflings. This result is the least favorable and the most messy option.

This means you will lose the support of the Druids. To avoid losing the Tieflings, too, you have to leave the Emerald Grove through the Stone Door after killing Kagha and climb the staircase to The Hollow. That’s where you will join the surviving Tieflings in the fight against the remaining Druids. Win the fight and Zevlor will thank you, keeping your Save the Refugees quest active.

If you don’t do that, you will make everything even worse. If you flee the Emerald Grove using the underground or take a Long Rest after killing Kagha, the Druids will seal the grove and force the Tieflings out, making you lose the support of both groups and “completing”—a cute word for “failing”—the entire Save the Refugees quest line, leaving you only with the Companion and Find a Cure quests active. Any other side quest you’ve started but didn’t finish at the Druid Grove will be completed, like Save Arabella and Save the First Druid, and you’ll get no rewards for them.

Killing Kagha after investigating her (the good ending)

If you kill Kagha while confronting her after investigating the Shadow Druids, you stop the ritual of the grove sealing, and nothing negative in story development will happen. You can get the Broodmother’s Revenge uncommon amulet by looting her corpse, which will give you Venomous Revenge that poisons your weapon for 1d4 bonus damage when the wearer is healed. Zevlor will be thankful, and you will progress in the Save the Refugees quest line.

If you really want to kill Kagha, that’s the best moment to do so. You must be patient since you need to complete the entire Investigate Kagha quest line to get to this point. I wasn’t composed enough to do this and followed the first method, which I don’t regret yet.

Should you kill Kagha in Baldur’s Gate 3?

You should ultimately kill Kagha, but you should not kill Kagha before investigating her. This option guarantees the best number of quests and character interactions, including those with Halsin, if you want to recruit or even romance him in the future. Only kill Kagha early if you want to experience a different perspective on the Baldur’s Gate 3 story and don’t care much about your interactions with Halsin.

I killed Kagha early because I find her the most annoying character in Baldur’s Gate 3. What led me to this bad decision was another series of bad decisions, like killing Healer Nettie after she tried to poison me and stealing from the Hidden Vault after pickpocketing Rath for the Rune of the Wolf. One thing led to another, and suddenly, I was fighting Kagha and the entire grove.

Tips for Killing Kagha in Baldur’s Gate 3

The bottom line is that Kagha has to die, but you must decide how. She’s a Wood Elf with a Strength stat of 17, a Dexterity stat of 16, and a high Poison resistance, so she’s not an easy boss to beat. Her Thunderwave and Heat Metal spells are also incredibly dangerous, and she dual-wields a scimitar and dagger for maximum melee effectiveness. That’s why you’ll want to set yourself up for success to make killing Kagha as easy as possible.

If you side with the Tieflings, it means the Druids don’t die, and you don’t get locked out of Halsin as a companion if he’s not in your party. But, you also can’t avoid the Druid grove and go straight into the goblin camp, because the child will die.

If you choose to attack Kagha and the Shadow Druids, you’ll also have to fight Kagha’s companions, Loic and a female Druid. The other thing working against you in this fight is the crowded map and the Shadow Druids’ trick arrows. If you want to make killing Kagha easier, we recommend having high-dexterity party members who have good melee options.

Tip:

Keep Rath alive in this fight, as he will often successfully cast Hold Person on Kagha.

Before you kill Kagha, you’ll want to pick off the Shadow Druids. Once you’ve done that, it’s time to end her.

The most effective way to do so is to strategically position one or two tank characters in melee range to restrict her movement and capitalize on potential Attacks of Opportunity if she attempts to flee. This tactic keeps her pinned down while your ranged party members fire over the protective cover provided by your tank characters.

Given her lack of potent ranged spells, maintaining distance from her Thunderwave ability and avoiding clustering your allies around her ensures the safety of your ranged support. Keep whittling down her health, and before you know it, the fight will be over!

That’s how you kill Kagha in Baldur’s Gate 3, and you’ll want to make sure that you tell Zevlor and the other tieflings that she’s gone as well!

How to start the “Kill Kagha” sub-quest in BG 3

In order to rid the world of Kagha, you’ll first need to speak with Zevlor. Specifically, you’ll speak with him after Kagha tells you to help the Tieflings get lost.

When you’re speaking with Zevlor, you’ll want to choose the following dialogue options:

  • “Can you delay the ritual?”
    • In response to this, Zevlor will tell you that Kagha is creating a negative influence
  • “Then why don’t you get rid of her?”
    • Zevlor loves this response, but he’ll tell you that the Tieflings are powerless to remove Kagha as they’re incapable of entering the Inner Sanctum.

Fortunately, you and your party can go into the Inner Sanctum. That means that you can agree to help Zevlor and remove Kagha yourself. Lethally, of course.
