The Swedes won the first quarterfinals 2-1 over mixed European team OpTic Gaming on three maps–Inferno, Train, and Mirage–to advance to the semifinals.

On Inferno, Fnatic dominated the pace early on their Terrorist side, winning 9-6 in the first half. Once the Swedes won the second pistol round, it seemed as though the map would be over, but OpTic mounted a huge offensive comeback to continue. After a few strings of traded rounds, mostly caused by OpTic, the map game came down a huge round 30. Adam Friberg then pulled off a crazy one-on-two clutch in a post-plant situation to win OpTic the first map of the series.

Map two Train was a bit more one-sided, however, as Fnatic showed who was the more experienced team with a number of successful defenses. The halftime score was 11-4, but again, OpTic didn’t want to go out without a fight. Despite another comeback attempt the Green Wall faltered, giving up the second map to Fnatic 16-10.

The final map of the series, Mirage, was back and forth throughout the entire first half, which ended 9-6 in favor of OpTic. But Fnatic began a win streak after taking the second pistol round to make the game closer. Once OpTic broke the Swedish economy late in the game, the final rounds came down to a battle of money until round 30. Fnatic then took the map with a solid B site hold at 16-14 to end the series.

Fnatic will be playing FaZe Clan tomorrow at 10am ET in the first semifinals of the $750,000 event.
