Being one of VALORANT’s most defender-friendly maps, Split calls for a thoughtful approach when it comes to choosing a team composition. If you’re unsure which agents to pick on this map, let me help you build the perfect team for your games.Â
What are the best team comps for Split in VALORANT?
While its Spike plant sites are incredibly detailed, Split’s mid section, rafters, and towers play a crucial role in driving the map’s meta. Taking control of the mid-section connecting the two sites is important if you’re looking to execute a successful post-plant strategy, whether it’s on offense or defense.Â
Needless to say, if you’re aiming for a high win rate in Split, choosing VALORANT agents that are perfect for controlling and clearing Split’s narrow lanes is essential. Accordingly, I suggest the following team compositions for Split:
- Raze, Skye, Viper, Astra, Cypher
- Jett, Raze, Skye, Omen, Cypher
- Raze, Skye, Omen, Sage, Killjoy
- Raze, Skye, Breach, Omen, Cypher
What agents to pick on Split in VALORANT
Duelist
When it comes to duelists, Raze is, hands down, the best pick for Split’s quirky features in VALORANT. Her grenade and Boom Bot can provide incredible value with their space-taking mechanics, which, coupled with her satchel-boosted movement potential, makes her an inevitable agent on this map.
You can combine Raze with Jett for a double duelist composition, adding to your team’s ability to conquer space. For a tightly spaced map like Split, I can’t stress enough how important claiming space is. I’ve come across many players choosing to hold just the site during post-plant, only to get cornered by the enemies a minute later.
At the same time, while a duelist-heavy composition allows your team to take up a lot of space, you also need controllers and sentinels to keep control over claimed space.
Controller
For the typical solo controller route, I suggest going with Omen on Split. His recurring smokes and blind can bring wondrous advantages to your team on attack and defense. If you are playing a trio or five-stack, you can also go for Astra as a solo controller, but be wary of her limitations. She’s meant to be played methodically, so team play and communication is important.
Double-controller team compositions make defending on Split a lot easier. If you’re picking this route, go for the esports-tested duo: Astra and Viper. You can also do an Omen and Viper combo, letting your team go for an aggressive approach with Omen while Viper takes responsibility for the lurk.
Sentinel
I heavily favor Cypher for a sentinel on Split. His Trapwires and one-way Cyber Cage setups can lock down sites like no other VALORANT agent and perfectly complement Split’s constricted features, winning you free rounds on defense.Â
That said, Sage is a popular pick on this map due to her Barrier Orb, which is used to block off crucial lanes of the map. The most popular use of her wall is for blocking Mid Top, denying attackers entrance through Mid Mail or Mid Vent. I don’t like Sage as the solo sentinel on a team. She lacks the potential to hold down claimed space as effectively as Killjoy or Cypher. But her wall does bring a lot of value in a map like a Split, so in this case, you can combine her with another trap-heavy agent like Killjoy.Â
Note that while a sentinel-heavy team comp will help you win more rounds on defense, it can pose a problem on attack. Your team will have to play more on picks rather than approach a site aggressively.
Initiator
Initiators are crucial to winning a VALORANT game, and you definitely shouldn’t skip one on Split. As attackers, it’s difficult to clear spaces as it is, and Split’s narrow site lanes make it even harder. I suggest choosing Skye as, despite her nerfs, she still seems to be a viable agent on certain maps. Alternatively, you can also go for Gekko or Breach.
