Titan shuts down, releases players into ‘beautiful esports wildernerness’

Singaporean esports organization Titan, home to one of Europe’s top Counter-Strike teams, suddenly announced it was closed down yesterday.

Citing financial issues and deals that had fallen through, the team said it would be shutting its doors immediately and its players and staff would be “released into the beautiful esports wilderness.”

The organization was home to Smite and Counter-Strike teams at the time of dissolution. It previously had teams in Quake and Dota 2. 

Titan’s Smite side had finished second in the 2015 Smite World Championships just over a year ago and won the Smite Pro League EU Summer Season 2015, but did not qualify for last month’s 2016 World Championships.

The organization’s Counter-Strike side had enjoyed a degree of success in the European scene, placing highly in events like the CEVO Season 8 Finals and ESL ESEA Pro League Invitational. The side is currently taking part in the StarSeries event in Belarus, and have announced they will stay together and seek a new sponsor.

In 2014, one of the team’s Counter-Strike players, Hovik “KQLY” Tovmassian, was banned from the game, which the team said severely affected its ability to secure sponsorship, contributing to its financial troubles.

The former Titan side is not the only top European team currently looking for a sponsor: the former Team Solo Mid side are also looking for a new banner.
