One of Super Smash Bros. Wii U’s best players will be missing out on this year’s Evo after a medical issue forced him to withdraw.
Echo Fox’s Leonard “MKLeo” Lopez Perez, who burst into the scene out of nowhere in 2015 when he beat Ramin “Mr. R” Delshad at Smash Factor, was one of the favorites to lift the title this year. He is now set to watch Evo at home as he recovers from chickenpox.
“Sadly I won’t be able to go to EVO due that I got chickenpox a week ago,” MKLeo stated in his announcement. “I thought I still had a chance to go cuz I feel better now but this is contagious so I cant even leave home.”
Depending on how well his recovery goes, fans next chance to see MKLeo would be at Super Smash Con 2018, which starts shortly after Evo on Aug. 9 to 12 at the Dulles Expo Center, in Chantilly, VA. MKLeo has given no indication of which event he will be heading to next, however.

MKLeo isn’t the only Smash Bros. player that might miss out on the event. One of the top Smash Bros. Melee players, Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma, posted a picture of an arm injury that he picked up on Twitter that seems to indicate that he might not be competing as well.
Hungrybox is one of the best and most consistent players in the Melee scene. His potential departure from Evo would come as a huge blow to the event due to his overwhelming popularity.
