I’m not just going to give you the answer. First, here are four hints to help you find it yourself—then, obviously, I’ll give you the answer.

  • Hint 1: “They ____ the crime scene.”
  • Hint 2: Past tense of flee.
  • Hint 3: Anagram is “DELF”
  • Hint 4: Begins with an “F.”

Had enough? No judgment here, but I’m going to reveal the answer below, so don’t scroll on if you want to keep trying.

‘Ran away from the scene’ NYT Mini clue answer

The answer to today’s NYT Mini clue, “Ran away from the scene,” is “FLED.” If you ran away from a crime scene (past tense), then you fled the scene. Heck, you could’ve even fled to another country. According to Merriam-Webster, flee (the present tense of fled) means “to run away often from danger or evil”—even if you’re the dangerous one.

Did you know?

FLED is also the name of a buddy action comedy starring Stephen Baldwin and Lawrence Fishburne—a very odd combo.

‘Ran away from the scene’ NYT Mini clue difficulty rating

This is a pretty easy clue by NYT Mini standards, as it does what it says on the tin. The word is pretty short, only four letters, and the clue pretty much tells you this is the past tense of flee—as long as you get the word “flee” first. I’m going to give this a two out of five for difficulty.
