What is weapon Proficiency in The First Descendant?

Get familiar with your weapons.

There are plenty of guns in The First Descendant, but unlike other similar looter-shooters, you actually have XP for each weapon in the game. This is called weapon Proficiency, and we’ll tell you everything you need to know about it.

In The First Descendant, weapon Proficiency represents its level. Each weapon has its own Proficiency level, shared among all your Descendants. You can check the weapon’s Proficiency level by hovering over it in the inventory.

Weapon Proficiency becomes important in the endgame of The First Descendant. To apply a Crystallization Catalyst to a weapon, you need to reach Proficiency level 40, which is the maximum level. After using the Crystallization Catalyst, the Proficiency level resets to one, and you have to level it up again.

To optimize your endgame loadouts, prepare to reset weapons multiple times. Using Crystallization Catalysts reduces the Module capacity cost and is the only way to strengthen weapons in Hard mode.

How to increase weapon Proficiency in The First Descendant

To increase weapon Proficiency in The First Descendant, you need to have the weapon equipped and preferably use it. You get some weapon Proficiency XP for every kill you make, but you also get some for just having the weapon equipped. At the end of every mission, you can see a summary of how much weapon XP you’ve earned.

We recommend you choose a few strong weapons, especially Ultimate ones, like Thunder Cage or Python, and invest your time and resources in them. Ideally, you want to have a Crystallization Catalyst ready when you’re about to hit the level cap or have another weapon you want to level at the ready.
