Cloud9 has replaced its CS:GO head coach, Ronald “Rambo” Kim, after four months, the organization announced today. Soham “valens” Chowdhury, the team’s former head coach who’s responsible for Cloud9’s data science, will take Rambo’s place.
Rambo assumed the permanent position in March and the team had mixed results in April. Cloud9 picked up a sixth-place finish at Blast Pro Series Miami, came in third place at ESL Pro League season nine Group C (which allows them to compete in stage two), and came in fourth at ECS season seven, week three.
With valens, on the other hand, Cloud9 had remarkable results under his leadership. The most notable result came at the ELEAGUE Boston Major in January 2018, when C9 took down FaZe, who were huge favorites at that time. They also made the finals on two other occasions, at cs_summit 2 in February 2018 and the ELEAGUE CS:GO Invitational in January 2019.
Valens decided to step down from the head coach position in December 2018, but he remained in the organization to build Cloud9’s analytics division and to help with the transition of a new coach.
Valens and crew have a busy schedule ahead of them since the team will be playing at Blast Pro Series Madrid, the ESL Pro League, and DreamHack Masters Dallas. Valens will officially return to the stage as C9’s head coach on May 10 against Natus Vincere at Blast Pro Series Madrid.
