The Death Castle can be intimidating at first in Persona 3 Reload, especially if you don’t know how to exploit its weaknesses. Just because you dispatch it once doesn’t mean you’re rid of it for good, though: it comes back with a vengeance, and returns with bloodlust in Episode Aigis.
Your first fight against the Death Castle should take place in Tziah, the fourth block. He can appear as a Monad Door boss as you’re in the top half of the block. Death Castle also appears as an enemy in Adamah, the final block of Tartarus, with a much higher level. We started encountering it as a regular shadow after floor 242.
In Episode Aigis, however, expect this enemy to get in your way at least twice: First as a gatekeeper in Antenora and again as a Monad Door boss in Ptolomea.
As is the case in Persona, you usually see variations of enemies with different levels, weaknesses, and even abilities (for instance, Elegant Mother acts differently when it’s a Monad Door boss). That’s the case for Death Castle, with different affinities in each incarnation. Here’s how you can beat this enemy in both its apparitions in Persona 3 Reload.
Death Castle weaknesses in Persona 3 Reload
The Death Castle in Tziah’s Monad Doors is weak to Ice, but it resists Slash, nullifies Pierce and Light, and reflects Dark. Mitsuru is the obvious choice since she’s the only companion with easy access to Ice Magic. If she’s not with you, though, you can use a Persona with any of the Bufu skills to bring it down.
Koromaru isn’t much help because he’s up against resistances here, but you can use his Theurgies to deal damage or set up high-powered combos. If you don’t have Mitsuru, use an Ice-based Persona and Gems to get this enemy ready for All-Out Attacks.
On the other hand, the level 68 Death Castle in Adamah is weak to Wind magic but nullifies Strike and Fire, absorbs Shock, and repels Dark. A bunch of abilities just went into your “do not use” list! It also has access to a series of buffs, plus (Ma)Ziodyne paired with Electric Amp.
Death Castle weakness in Persona 3 Reload – Episode Aigis (Antenora)
The Death Castle returns at least twice in Episode Aigis. First, you’ll see it again as a gatekeeper on Antenora’s 19th floor then as a Monad Door boss in Ptolomea. Each Death Castle has different weaknesses here, and the first one comes accompanied by an Avenger Knight.
As a gatekeeper, Death Castle has no weaknesses, nullifies Dark damage, and absorbs both Fire and Ice. It’s quite a lengthy fight, especially since it’s not easy to get follow-ups on Avenger Knight, either. Taking down the Avenger Knight first might help, leaving only this monolithic Death Castle standing. It has a meaty health pool, so don’t hesitate to use Theurgies to expedite the process.
Death Castle weakness in Persona 3 Reload – Episode Aigis (Ptolomea)
The Monad Door version of Death Castle, on the other hand, is weak to Ice, just like its counterpart in Tziah. It repels Dark, nullifies Pierce, and resists Slash damage. It’s not a bad weakness to have considering Metis and Mitsuru can both take easy advantage of it, without mentioning whatever Personas you have in your roster.
Defeating the Monad Door version of the Death Castle in Episode Aigis can grant you a Red Wall Fragment, which is necessary to complete Elizabeth’s Request No. 34. This unlocks the Tower Tarot card, which boosts the stats of your Personas.
