Starfield player attempts to become the spaceship using their boost pack to enter space

Space is so close yet so far away.

Starfield players are ditching their spaceships to boost pack themselves into space—but they’re quickly learning there are limits to how high they can go and want mods to break through the atmospheric ceiling.

Most players have now progressed a fair way through Starfield’s campaign or have started the New Game Plus mode and they’re trying new things and attempting to break traditional space molds. Players are testing how far they can get with their boost pack and if it’s possible to make it into space, with one player showcasing their progress on Reddit.

Sadly, it appears impossible to enter orbit, even if you have the best boost packs or are in New Game Plus. Players are debating exactly how high they can reach while trying to break through the atmosphere. Some players believe it’s around 1,000 meters, while others claim they’ve only reached 850 meters. Unfortunately, that’s still quite a ways away from reaching the atmosphere.

That’s assuming there isn’t a boundary that will stop players or if they’ll somehow enter into one of Starfield’s notorious loading screens first. Regardless of the limit, players want to be able to break through it. Whether this means trying this out on the lowest gravity planets or equipping mods for their boost packs, they want it to happen.

One user believes it would have made Starfield more fun and immersive if players could upgrade their suit and boost pack to an “ultimate” form, which would have allowed players to become the spaceship in an Iron Man sort of way. It would have made space exploration much more enjoyable as well.

But as it’s doubtful, the devs will roll out an update with a feature like this. Hopefully, a mod will be developed to allow players to jump into space and fly around. There are boost pack mods on NexusMods already; however, no mods allow players to make it into space with their boost pack.

At least, not yet…
