Team Liquid were the biggest story of the day, winning the opening two matches to take a commanding lead and give themselves a chance at qualifying for the PGI 2018 finals in Berlin.

In the first match, Team Liquid and FaZe Clan had 12 kills each at the end of the match with Liquid winning the crucial final fight to bag themselves a victory. As for the second game, Liquid’s victory was accredited to luck with the circle, which was constantly spawning around their position.

Team Liquid’s success would not have been possible if not for Team VALHALLA’s disqualification from the event. Team Liquid finished sixth in their open qualifier group at the end of May to originally miss out on a space at the EU qualifier finals before one of VALHALLA’s members received a game ban in PUBG, which goes against the rules of the tournament. The reason behind the ban, and which member of Team VALHALLA received the ban, has not been made public, however.

Rogue proceeded to win games three and four but their lacklustre placements in the other games of the day only give them a fifth place finish on the board. Team Liquid then cemented their dominance with victory in the fifth and final game to end the day at the top of the standings.

The event is far from over, however, and Team Liquid have a lot of work to do to guarantee themselves a space on the plane to Berlin next month. Only 20 teams remain from the original 640 that registered for the EU qualifiers and each one of them will be looking to make their mark in tomorrow’s matches.
