European teams dismantled everyone in their sights today at the StarSeries iLeague PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds season two finals, putting them comfortably in the lead heading into day two.

Day one saw the 16 best teams of the tournament play on Miramar, PUBG’s desert-themed map.

Sixteen teams started the day on the same level, with each one looking to get a large share of the $100,000 prize pool. When the dust settled and five of the first 20 matches were played, it was the European squads of Team Liquid, Team Vitality, Knights, and Method who proved to be the best.

Method end the day in first having come second in two games and securing 31 kills in five games. Vitality finished second after winning the first game of the finals and placing consistently afterwards to rack up the points.

Knights and Liquid make up third and fourth place to cement Europe’s dominance at the event. OpTic Gaming, NA’s best performer, made up the rest of the top five after securing 20 kills in game four and securing a first place finish.

Gen. G and FaZe, two of the favorites going into the tournament, failed to show up when it really mattered and finished near the bottom of the standings. Gen.G won the TPP portion of the PUBGGlobal Invitational back in July, with Team Liquid finishing second.

With day one wrapped up, the final 16 teams will be looking to secure more points leading into the finals this Sunday. So far, however, it looks like an all-European podium finish is on the horizon. Competition continues tomorrow at 8am CT.
