Team Liquid and Gen.G Black take control in the first day of the PUBG Global Invitational 2018

The TPP tournament gets underway.

After a lengthy delay to the evening’s action, the first day of the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Global Invitational kicked off to the roar of the crowd at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin.

Day one saw the start of the third-person perspective (TPP) portion of the event, with teams trying to secure themselves a large chunk of the $1 million prize pool. Team Liquid of Europe and Gen.G of Korea were ahead of the pack at the end of day one after four rounds of intensive play. The last four games of the TPP tournament kick off tomorrow at 10am CT where a winner will be crowned.

Team Liquid had a sluggish start at the beginning of the day, finishing 6th and 8th in games one and two before securing Chicken Dinner victories for games three and four.

Liquid’s wins came from a mixture of luck and positioning as they were able to situate themselves in the centre of the map to give them good circle control, letting other teams use up their resources against one another to give Liquid an advantage over the weaker teams in the final few fights.

Liquid weren’t the only standout performers throughout the first day, however, with the Korean team Gen.G Black pulling off a bunch of clutch plays to finish second in games two, three, and four. PUBG tournaments are all about consistent placements and kills and Gen.G Black had that in droves, giving them the first spot even though they hadn’t won a single game.

The TPP tournament is far from over. With four rounds left tomorrow, all teams have a lot of work to do to push for those top sots and a bigger share of the prize pool. All 20 teams could effectively still take the top spot if results go their way—but so far, it’s looking like Team Liquid and Gen.G Black will earn a big pay day.
