Overwatch 2 gives Baptiste massive hidden buff in latest patch—or is it a bug?

There's no way this was added on purpose... right?

Baptiste has one of the highest healing capacities in Overwatch 2, but some players have realized his powerful Biotic Launcher healing grenades can do more than just heal friends who are in front of you.

In a video posted on Twitter today, former Overwatch League player Kyle “Rakattack” Rakauskas pointed out that Baptiste’s alternate fire is now capable of healing allies through some of the game’s thinner walls.

Overwatch 2’s most recent patch came last Thursday, Oct. 19, and it only included bug fixes. The season seven patch notes, which dropped on Oct. 10, did not list any balance changes to Baptiste. This leads us to believe the newly acquired “buff” for Baptiste might be the result of a bug, instead of being an intended feature.

Either way, it’s certainly worth keeping in mind next time you’re in a ranked game. While it’s against the game’s terms of service to exploit bugs, you should definitely take note of any enemy Baptiste players’ positioning so that you don’t end up shelling out damage mindlessly on a target that is getting healed through a wall.

The apparent bug doesn’t necessarily always work, though, which is probably for the best. In a follow-up post to Twitter, Rak added that players looking to heal teammates through walls should “play around with the splatch angles because sometimes straight-on doesn’t work.”

Given Baptiste’s high healing per second potential, it’s more than likely that this change is a bug that Blizzard should remove from the game quickly. Until then, expect to see a lot of silly situations that involve Baptiste players staying safe behind a wall while healing up tanks that can chill on the opposite side of the wall to contest objectives.
