No Man’s Sky’s Aquarius update reels in fishing expedition with sunken treasures

Promising a "uniquely relaxing experience."

A little over a month after the release of the Worlds Part I update, No Man’s Sky is taking us on another adventure—this time a far more relaxing one.

No Man’s Sky revealed its next update on Sept. 4, called Aquarius, and it’ll take players on a fishing trip across the galaxy. You can now explore planets to find your perfect fishing spot in your world or on a new expedition. There are dozens of fish to discover in the fishing log, from minnow fish to “huge alien marine mammals” and legendary fish.

What you can catch depends on the planet. The patch notes say you have to “explore a huge range of different environments and water conditions,” as well as craft specialized bait to catch all the fish in the log. Sometimes, it may not even be a fish that you find but a long-lost message in a bottle.

It may sound like a lot of work, but to make the experience even more peaceful, Aquarius introduces the Exo-Skiff and Automated Fish Traps. The Exo-Skiff is a customizable fishing platform with onboard cold storage you can use to traverse the roughest seas on the planet. If you don’t feel like fishing yourself, set up a floating Automated Fish Trap that does the work for you.

Alongside fishing come new cooking recipes to put your catch to use. From Marine Steak and Pickled Fish to Fish Fry and Mollusc Flesh, there are plenty of new recipes and ingredient combinations to discover when you’re feeling hungry.

After the water rework in the World Part I update, it’s as good a time as ever to jump back into your starship. The Aquarius expedition starts today and will run for around six weeks, allowing you to earn a set of deep-sea customization parts and exclusive fishing equipment.
